A big thanks, once again, to my wonderful support team. Scott, who was willing to drag himself and our kids out of bed before 6 am to be there with me. Mason and Brynn for waving to me and cheering me on. Also my parents, who were supposed to be out of town but surprised me by showing up right before our race started. They couldn't resist coming since they practically had two daughters competing. And of course Austin, Stacie, and Sunnie for planning it all.

swim.bike.run
My best bud, Stacie, and I competed in the Stansbury Park Triathlon today and it was awesome! We competed in the Sprint Distance which is 1/2 mile swim, 20K (12.4 miles) bike, and 5K(3.1 miles) run. We had the goal to finish under 2 hours and not only did we make our goal, we SMASHED it. We both finished under 1 hour 30 minutes. My split times were Swim 13:45, Bike 41:10, and Run 26:05. With my transition times added in my overall time was 1:25:20 which was good enough to earn me 2nd place in my age division. Today reminded me how much I love triathlons and I have set a new goal to participate in one every year from now on, hopefully with Stacie.

Package full of Smiles
Mason and I went out to the mailbox today to find a small package waiting for us. Inside the package was the CD of our family pictures. I like them all so much I can't decide which ones to post, so get ready for way too many pictures. I can guarantee every one of these pictures will be framed on my wall in a week.

The CD wasn't the only thing in the package. I mentioned that Shelly and Mason bonded over How to Train Your Dragon. Mason told Shelly many times how badly he wanted a black, Toothless dragon like his cousin, Cannon's. Cannon got the dragon from a McDonalds Happy Meal and Mason has wanted one so desperately but McDonalds doesn't have them anymore. Mason even saved up his money to buy one from the store, but Walmart hasn't had any dragons in stock for over a month! I even resorted to ebay where people are selling the McDonalds toys but just can't bring myself to pay $5-15 for one. So, you can imagine Mason's face when he opened the package to find a black Toothless inside. Shelly's little boy had gotten one from McDonalds and doesn't play with it so she went home and put it aside for Mason. Not only is she an awesome photographer, but she is super thoughtful, too. Thanks a million Shelly!!!
Okay, so I must apologize in advance for the pathetic question I am about to pose. I know there are a lot of these McDonalds dragons out there and chances are many of them are sitting in toy rooms not being used and in a month they will be thrown away. If one of these unwanted dragons lives at your house will you think of us before you throw it away? Wow, I am such a loser. I can't believe I just begged for McDonalds dragons on my blog. I guess that just shows how desperate we are.
Hope everyone is as happy as we are today!

Family Pictures
A couple weeks ago we had family pictures taken. My childhood neighbor and former volleyball teammate, Shelly Sommerfeldt, was our photographer and did a great job. Shelly won Mason over immediately with her knowledge of How to Train Your Dragon and he was willing to go and do whatever she asked him to. She even got mostly natural smiles out of him rather than his squinty eyed camera smile. Brynn on the other hand decided she wanted nothing to do with any of us and just wanted to explore the world on her own. Shelly worked with Brynn and her determination not to be in a family picture amazingly well. I am really happy with how they turned out. This is just a sneak peek of the pictures that Shelly posted on her photography blog. Check out all of her pictures HERE, she is awesome!

Dumb and Dumber
My brother, Chris, loves to point out that Mason looks like Lloyd Christmas. Lately, there have been times when Brynn's not far off from Harry Dunne. Today after her nap was one of those times. I couldn't resist snapping a picture of my little Harry and Lloyd for everyone to enjoy. This is for you, Chris.

Roughin' It
Scott and Mason had their first camping trip together... in the backyard. It may not have been in the mountains, but it included everything you would get out there, and more. We started their adventure after Brynn was in bed. Mason loved playing in the tent which we placed a queen size mattress in (part of the more I was talking about).
We got out the camping chairs and started a roaring fire on the grill to roast marshmallows. Mason was a big fan of s'mores.
After all the sugar had worked its way out of his system, Mason settled down in the tent with Scott to read books with a flashlight. Once the flashlights were turned off Mason went right to sleep as if he were in his own bed. I went to bed in the house with Brynn and didn't hear from the boys again until 7:45 the next morning. The first thing Mason said to Scott when they woke up was, "I had a great camping trip with you, Dad!"

Out With the Old
Almost 6 years ago Scott and I were engaged. We were young and the only things we had to start our life together were the log bed I made and the old, big, blue couch from my parent's basement that they eagerly gave us. We had a long list of things we needed and at the top of the list was a car. We couldn't afford a car payment so we scraped together all our pennies and went searching for a car on our very limited budget. That's when our 98' Mazda Millenia entered our life.
As you can tell from the picture we were pretty proud of our first purchase together. It was the biggest check either one of us had ever written. I signed the title "Rachel Murray" which was the first time I had signed my new name (I hadn't practiced and it was really ugly). So why am I writing this boring post? Two weeks ago we traded in our beloved Millenia for a new-to-us car. Mason cried when we told him we gave Daddy's blue car to someone else and I surprisingly felt a little sad, too. But as soon as we saw Daddy's new blue Subaru Legacy we were okay. We had a great 6 years and 50,000 miles with our Millenia and we will always remember it as our first car. Thanks for many great rides.

Pause
Mason
Height: 39 1/4 inches (80%)
Weight: 33.5 pounds (63%)
Brynn
Height: 28 1/4 inches (24%)
Weight: 17 pounds 15 ounces (7%)
The doctor said normally they don't like to see weight percentiles below 10%, but he thinks Brynn looks really heathly and does not consider her underweight (have you seen the rolls on her thighs?), she is just a "feather weight" as he termed it. There is no doubt about it that she is our little one.
